SLSA Precarity Rep: call for expressions of interest

The SLSA wishes to appoint its first Precarity Representative to its Board.  There is an increasing use of precarious employment practices in HE. These can take the form of fixed-term contracts, fractional contracts, and many other forms of employment that do not guarantee an ongoing relationship with the employer. This impacts on the lives of those on precarious contracts in many ways, but mainly to their detriment.

The new role of Precarity Representative includes representing the views and experiences of SLSA members who face precarious employment to the Board of Trustees, and encouraging engagement with those members who face precarity in their work. Alongside attending Board meetings, the Precarity Representative will undertake board member responsibilities such as reviewing articles for SLSA prizes and being part of SLSA sub-committees. The SLSA would particularly welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds.  You will be appointed for a term of 3 years. You will be required to be a member of the SLSA (if not already) at the time of taking up the appointment. General information on membership of the SLSA Board of Trustees is available on the SLSA website. Please send an expression of interest (300 words) and a CV to the SLSA Vice Chair, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Friday 5 November 2021. Your expression of interest should explain why you would like to be considered for the role, what you would bring to it, and how you would advance the charitable aims of the SLSA.
