The centre brings together over 30 staff of the School of Law at Manchester who use a range of social science methods in studying crime, the justice system and law more widely.
Members bring the insights and methods of criminology, sociology, anthropology, psychology and economics to a range of problems and policy issues. The breadth of social science perspectives represented in the centre is one of its major strengths. Current research by members of the centre covers crime and criminal justice, economic analysis of law, regulation, legal aid and education law.
These interests are also reflected in a number of taught postgraduate degrees offered in the School of Law: MA in crime, law and society, MRes in crime and criminal justice and LLM in law and economics. Members of the centre are also willing to supervise research students for MPhil and PhD degrees.
