Closely linked to the Journal of Law and Society and its activities, the centre aims to enable and raise the profile of high quality socio-legal scholarship and education at Cardiff University.

It promotes and encourages innovative research of international quality focusing on socio-legal, empirical and theoretical analysis of legal institutions and processes and the impact of social, political, economic and scientific influences on law, legal professions and legal activities, specifically sociological and socio-legal methodology including empirical research methods in legal science.

The Centre of Law and Society maintains strong connections with other schools and faculties within Cardiff University, with other universities and similar research centres in the United Kingdom and internationally.
