Mentoring Scheme

Applications are currently closed for this scheme.

Following a successful pilot, the SLSA’s mentoring scheme will return for the 2024–2025 academic year and we would love for you to be involved. This scheme forms part of delivering our EDI strategy to widen participation in the SLSA and the socio-legal community, including by members employed on precarious contracts.

The aim of the scheme is to provide opportunities for members to create connections with other researchers, foster a sense of community, and create channels for knowledge transfer between more established socio-legal scholars and those in earlier stages of their careers or those wishing to return following career breaks.

The scheme will offer 10 places to mentees. The scheme will kick-off with a plenary session in October 2024, and mentoring pairs will meet at least twice more remotely with the possibility of meeting in person at the SLSA Conference in April 2025 in Liverpool. In addition, two additional remote plenary sessions will be arranged with a focus on publishing and impact.

The purpose of the scheme is to provide support for those who may face structural disadvantage in their academic careers in line with our EDI and anti-precarity commitments. Applications will be reviewed by the EDI Committee with this in mind.
